Is this your water?

The signs we hear about most.

  • Orange or rust stainsOn sinks, toilets, tubs and the laundry.
  • Rotten-egg smellHydrogen sulfide in showers and at the tap. Iron rarely travels alone.
  • Brown or black specksManganese in tubs, toilets and the washing machine, even when the water looks clear.
  • Metallic tasteAnd appliances that clog, work harder and fail early.

Filtering out iron, bringing in purity.

Every drop of water plays a role in daily life, and removing iron makes a difference you notice in taste, appearance and usability. Every system we install is chemical free and air injected: oxygen does the work of oxidizing the iron so it can be filtered out, which means there are no chemicals to purchase, no additives entering your plumbing and no feed tanks to refill. The BIF units do not even need an air pump or venturi.

Different water sources carry different levels of iron. Some households see minor discoloration, others struggle with heavy staining and a metallic taste. We offer systems that remove dissolved, particulate and bacterial iron, improving water quality throughout the property with minimal maintenance. After testing your water we select the media and the sizing that match the type and level of iron present.

Unfiltered iron affects plumbing and appliances. Rust particles settle in pipes and reduce flow; dishwashers, washing machines and water heaters work harder and cost more to run. Removing the iron at the point of entry stops that damage before it starts, for residential, commercial and industrial properties across Minnesota and parts of Wisconsin.

What we install

Four ways we take iron out.

Whole-house iron filters

Remove iron before it enters the plumbing, on private wells and city water alike. After testing, we pick the media and sizing for the type and level of iron. Clothes come out cleaner, fixtures stay free of staining, appliances last longer.

Iron and sulfur removal

Many Minnesota properties also have hydrogen sulfide, the rotten-egg smell in showers and sinks. Air injection oxidizes iron and sulfur together, so one system handles the staining and the odor. Homes that tried carbon cartridges or shock chlorination without lasting results see the difference right away.

Iron and manganese filtration

Manganese shows up alongside iron and causes dark brown or black specks in tubs, toilets and laundry. It stains at very low concentrations, so clear-looking water can still leave marks. Our systems capture both minerals in one pass and keep buildup out of water heaters and supply lines.

Commercial iron filtration

Restaurants, hotels, salons and laundromats depend on iron-free water. Stained sinks cost reputation and money. Our commercial systems are sized for higher demand and continuous use, removing iron without interrupting service.

Common questions

What people ask Tony about iron filters.

Quick answers to the questions we hear on the phone. If you would rather just talk it through, call us; we test your water before quoting anything.

Do your iron filters use chemicals?

No. Every iron system we install is chemical free and air injected. Oxygen oxidizes the iron, so there is nothing to buy, no additives in your plumbing and no feed tanks to refill.

Will it fix the rotten-egg smell too?

Usually yes. Hydrogen sulfide is oxidized by the same air injection, so one system handles the iron staining and the sulfur odor. We confirm it with a water test first.

Do I also need a softener?

Most well-water homes do. The iron filter protects the softener, and the softener handles hardness the iron filter does not touch. We size the pair together after the test.

How much maintenance does an iron filter need?

Very little. The media backwashes itself on a schedule; there are no cartridges to change and no chemicals to top up. Members get the annual check as part of the visit.

Does it work on city water?

Yes. Whole-house iron filters serve homes on a private well and homes on city water alike. The media and sizing come from the test.

Tony came out to do an assessment when our old water softener quit working. He did a water test and provided some recommendations and options for new equipment. He was able to install the new equipment within days of us deciding which route we wanted to go. Great service and great prices!

We had Taplin install a water softener a couple years ago. They were so great we had them back for a filter this year. Tony was clear on communication, super fast to schedule and quick on install. After much research on local companies we decided to go with Taplin Water and I'm very glad we did. Taplin is a family owned business and Tony is a very stand up guy. It literally took him about 30-45 minutes to install an iron filter.
